Daytime Street Entertainments & Procession

Blackdown Hills Steel Band (www.blackdownsteel.org.uk) are a 10 – 15 piece band formed in 1999 to bring the sound of the Caribbean to Somerset and Devon.  They have played a number of fêtes and carnivals locally and will open the music programme with a bang on the stage in the Riverside Hall Car Park.

The Walkabout Theatre with Jester Minuet and Maudred Pen-Taggle.

(www.sratchproductions.org.uk) Whether it be the elixir of life, a pearl of wisdom or a glimpse into your future, Maudred Pen-Taggle is the hag with the answers you’re looking for.  Her travelling companion Jester Minuet will be at her side ready to entertain and enthral you with his shining wit and odorous odes. Freshly plucked from King Arthur's Court these two delightful tricksters will be travelling through Bampton on their quest for the Holy Snail ..... expect the unexpected.

Stripey Howling Hancock is a regular visitor to the Fair.  He is based in Exeter and is an accomplished guitarist and blues player. He will be returning to Bampton following a tour of Poland this summer.

Rattlebox Theatre (www.fabulist.co.uk) with David Oliver.  The Exeter based story teller who brought us Rastus the Rat last year, will be contributing again this year by providing top quality street theatre and story telling.

The Fuzz are a newly formed band made up of experienced musicians with Bampton contacts. From lazy Sunday afternoon beginnings to rock endings, The Fuzz will bring you their own 3-part harmonies in an upbeat, laid-back set influenced by styles as diverse as new

wave, motown, ska, jazz, funk, folk, swing and punk. What else is there?

The New Limits Youth Theatre Company from Bridgwater will be parading around the streets as street urchins, plague victims, mystics, quacks, wise women (quirky historic characters) - you never know who you'll bump in to. They will join the procession to The Motte and join in the evening’s entertainment.

Richard Huish College (www.richuish.ac.uk)

top music students from the college will be performing on the town stage either individually or as groups throughout the day

The West Country Concertina Players (www.wccp.info) are represented by Ruishton Band, a group of West Country musicians who will also be performing on the town stage and entertaining residents at the town’s retirement home during the day. The Club was formed in 1983 and includes musicians from all over the UK and abroad.  They regularly play at the Sidmouth and Weymouth Folk Festivals. Ruishton Band has been playing together for the last three years and always enjoys playing at Bampton Fair.

Pennymoor Singaround (/www.users.waitrose.com/~pennymoor/) will again be involved and will perform in the White Horse over lunch and in The Bridge in the evening. They then lead the music for After the Fair on Friday and over the weekend with Morris dancers, Irish bands and groups from Brittany all joining in the revelry and filling the town with music all weekend.

Bampton Players will be performing a ‘Mummers Play’ at different areas around the town. The Bampton Junior Players will also add to the costumed parade through the town to The Motte for the evening excitement.

Jans Van will once again be operating in the town and at The Motte providing activities and fun things to do for the younger visitors.  Face painting, balloon modelling, dragon dancing and drawing graffiti on her van are all popular.
